Jatropha Plant

Food crops

Kimminic successfully cultivated food crops alongside the Jatropha trees for purpose of better weed management and contribution to increased food production.

Fertilization

KIMMINIC’s own research has demonstrated that seed yield is optimized with added soil nutrients. Good organic fertilizer, particularly Jatropha seed cake, is preferable to achieve optimum yield.

To minimize costs, to restrict use of synthetic chemicals on the plantations, and to demonstrate sustainability we utilize the seed cake by-product from our oil extraction plant to satisfy the soil nutrient requirements on our plantations. Our intercropping program using legumes also addresses our soil fertilization requirements.

Irrigation

While Jatropha trees are typically renowned for their ability to handle dryness very well (it is possible for them to live almost entirely from the moisture in the air),

Technology

KIMMINIC’s production process from seed planting to the production of standardized biodiesel and other commercial products entails six main operations:

  1. Seeding and pruning of Jatropha trees through effective plantation management;
  2. Harvesting and de-shelling of Jatropha fruit;
  3. Mechanical pressing of Jatropha seeds;
  4. Transesterification of Jatropha crude oil and production of biodiesel;
  5. Power generation;
  6. Pelletizing of Jatropha cake for fertilizer.
