KIMMINIC is committed to bring wealth to the communities we operate in. The economic and social transformation of the areas around the plantations has already begun through an increased purchasing power of the local KIMMINIC employees.
Secondly, some off-shoot businesses have been started and we have seen expansion of existing community enterprises. For example, women from the neighbouring villages are providing food catering services for field workers and local rural financial institutions doing all the banking for the workers have been able to expand their services.
Thirdly, the communities will reap the benefits of sustainable tax revenues which will enhance the investments in all communal infrastructure.
Finally, community projects are envisioned which will support and enrich people's lives locally:
- Local food security
- Accessibility to clean water (new water wells)
- Supply of electricity
- Improved housing and sewage
- Health care availability and consistency
- Education
- Transportation

KIMMINIC is currently conducting a baseline social impact assessment to evaluate and communicate the positive impacts which the company is having and can achieve in the local communities today and in the future.
KIMMINIC has a three-pronged approach to food security. Firstly, all existing community farms, projects and properties on our project sites are left intact. The transformation of rural economies and the support of community projects go hand in hand. We therefore believe that the peaceful coexistence of community projects alongside ours will build trust and will accelerate the process to achieve this objective.
Secondly, we intend to increase food production within our operational areas through large scale intercropping of the Jatropha plantations with corn, soya bean, yam, groundnut, and other staples.
Finally, KIMMINIC intends to supply organic fertilizers from residual seed cake at highly subsidized prices to local famers when oil production commences. This we believe will help improve community farm yields, increase farm income and thereby promote our socio-economic objectives.
