The conversion of raw Jatropha oil to biodiesel results in the production of two useable byproducts. The first is produced in a pretreatment process to remove free fatty acids by adding caustic soda. Raw soap is the reaction product.
Secondly, the transesterification reaction that produces biodiesel also produces a much smaller quantity of glycerol, a byproduct that can be used as a fuel or it can be further refined into commercial grade glycerin products including solvent, antifreeze, detergent, and monomers for textiles or drugs.
KIMMINIC’s operations capitalize on the revenue opportunities afforded by all production products including, in the near future, soap and glycerol to complete the Jatropha value chain.
