KIMMINIC’s operations have focused on the production of three main products--Jatropha crude oil, biodiesel and organic fertilizer. We are also intercropping the Jatropha trees with various foods such as soybeans, cow peas, peanuts, yam, maize, and mangos. KIMMINIC revenue sources also include the sale of carbon credits and surplus electrical energy through gasification of Jatropha fruit shells and tree prunings. Soap stock is a saleable byproduct from oil pretreatment and crude glycerine is an important and valuable byproduct of the transesterification process. 

The base of the KIMMINIC enterprise is the Jatropha plant.

Jatropha is a basic tropical tree cultivated primarily in Africa, Asia and Latin America. It is a small tree or shrub with smooth gray bark which exudes a whitish coloured, watery, latex when cut. Normally, it grows between three and five meters in height, but can attain a height of up to eight or ten meters under favourable conditions.

The Jatropha plant handles dryness very well including an ability to survive almost entirely off the humidity in the air. Differences in yield depend on available rainfall or water. The Jatropha plant lives and produces seeds for 50 years with minimal input.

KIMMINIC employs our own Ghanaian variety of Jatropha curcas on our plantations which are located in permanently humid regions; therefore flowering occurs throughout the year. The seeds mature about 30 days after flowering. We have optimized our yield with some nutrients and our own Jatropha organic fertilizer.

Harvesting begins five to six months after sowing or planting and it continues year round as branches sprout, flower and bear fruit. Our current annual yield is 5-8 kg of seed per hectare.
